Part 5 | Umbrella People

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to another part of the Midnight Sun Challenge. Where we last left off, Bao and Lyle aged up, Bao becoming an Elder and Lyle becoming a Teen. This week our main goal is to earn loads of money so that we can upgrade the interior of the house. I'm getting sick of some of our old furniture and I think we need to step it up a bit. The girls will be ageing up which will be great for money making. It will mean that we have 4 sims in the household capable of making simoleons from skills. Straight into week 5 then!
WEEK 5, DAY 1
It's fall time and the twins are ageing up today. This will be where I start using those empty floors that I added and furnishing them, since the nursery no longer fits the girls' needs.
We'll no longer have to deal with all these tantrums soon!
And here comes Theresa just to add a bit of drama.
A haunted crib as well as hungry toddlers. Just what we needed. Thanks for that Theresa.
This time we'll age up Marina first and then Isla. Theresa even decided to join us!
Here's Marina staring creepily at her father. I randomised her trait and she got Ambitious which might be sort of annoying on this island since she won't be able to get a career or anything.
This is her casual outfit and her hairstyle.
Now it's time for little Isla's birthday.
Here's what she looks like now. She developed the Good Sense of Humour trait from me randomising it which really isn't a bad trait at all.
I changed her hair and clothes. Here she is with her new look.
Here is what the second storey of the houseboat looks like now. It's just Bao's room and a bathroom.
Here is what the third storey looks like now. It's a very spacious nursery.
Here is the fourth storey. The room on the left is Marina's room and the one to the right is Isla's.
Here's the fifth storey. I made it Lyle's room for now until I pick an heir.
Luckily Bao fixed the sink, but it left a huge puddle.
All the kids are sleeping in their new rooms.
Bao's fixing the toilet he broke yesterday.
I'm hoping to have him master painting before the end of his life.
Bao's newest painting.
The kids are all finished with their afternooon naps and got up to eat. I'll get Lyle to paint, Isla to fish and Marina to work on her writing. Bao needs to go to sleep now.
That was a fantastic day. We have a fully capable household now that all the kids are aged up. We also have newly decorated rooms that look a lot better than before. Let's see how tomorrow goes.
WEEK 5, DAY 2
Today will be a chance to start working on all the kids' skills. As I said yesterday, Lyle will paint, Isla will fish and Marina is going to get into writing. These are all awesome ways to make money on the island. And of course, once Bao is awake he will do some painting like Lyle.
Marina is starting her first ever book! She'll be the first person in the family to take up writing. It's a Non-Fiction genre book called 'Surviving on a Deserted Island', which I thought would be useful for future generations on our island.
Lyle's starting yet another painting. I hope it's a masterpiece.
And this is Isla's first fishing trip of many.
Marina earned 9 simoleons from publishing the first few chapters.
Marina got to the first level of writing so she's just taking a break with Isla.
Back to what they were doing. Level 1 in fishing for Isla so far.
This is Lyle's progress.
The computer broke, so time for Bao to get himself out of bed to fix this thing.
Until then, lots of TV.
It isn't quite a masterpiece but it is brilliant!
It's turned into a nice and bright day and Isla got to level 2 in fishing.
Bao finished fixing the computer, but before he goes off and paints I want him to do one more thing.
Yup, we're moving the houseboat! I'm getting sick of this same exact location, so we're going a little way away from the island.
Well here we are, in the middle of nowhere. The kids slept the whole way through the trip, so it'll be a little bit of a surprise for them when they wake up.
Bao's enjoying some hot coffee before he starts a painting for tonight.
That's all that happened today then. Tomorrow will be more skill building and really just the usual.
WEEK 5, DAY 3
As I stated before, we're just doing some more skill building today. Maybe Marina can finish her first book? Whatever does happen, I'll make sure to fill you in.
Cake for breakfast of course, as the family tradition goes. Also, I had Marina go on the computer and play some chess for a little while. She got to level 3 in logic because of her playing with the pegbox as a toddler.
Ohhh boy... Theresa decided to show up. I hope she isn't too mad that we took her tea set away.
Uhhh... Okay... This is kind of awkward Theresa.
Let's just go back to fishing and pretend that your ghost mother didn't just stick her crotch in your face, okay Isla?
Published a few more chapters which is always good.
Making yourself comfortable there, Theresa?
So ghosts drink tea, haunt random objects... And sleep in their teenage son's bed.
Weird but kind of cute?
These guys are just doing some fishing together.
Bao is super tired so he can sleep now.
Marina finished her first ever novel! I purchased it and it's coming in the mail soon. Until then, she's writing a Fiction book called 'The Legend of Rainbow Umbrella Boy'. Yeah, I'm going to include a lot of references to earlier happenings in the challenge for these book titles.
Their little fishing trip has gotten Lyle to level 1 in the skill and Isla to level 4. I decided to make Isla's lifetime wish 'Presenting the Perfect Private Aquarium' which means she wants to keep 13 different species of perfect fish in fishbowls.
Marina submitted some more chapters and she got to level 3 in writing.
Marina's also working on her logic skill now since she is a Genius sim and she was feeling a bit bored with her writing.
Lyle got to level 2 in fishing and is going to keep going for a while longer. Isla's done since she started early, so she's having some birthday cake and heading to bed.
Things are strange on the island as usual.
Bao is finally up and ready to work on this painting for the night.
Lyle and the twins are sleepy, so that's enough for them today.
The completed painting earned us 700 simoleons, so that calls for another painting to be made.
Today was yet another good day. We're really getting somewhere with everyone's skills. I think this is beginning to become one talented bunch of sims.
WEEK 5, DAY 4
Today I'll focus on Bao and Lyle's painting, Marina's logic and Isla's fishing.
Isla's already up bright and early for some fishing... Well not quite bright yet because it's 2:00 am.
The original laptop girl showed up at our houseboat! That hasn't happened in ages! And she's on her laptop! You have no idea how happy this makes me.
Bao is level 9 in painting, which means he is super close to mastering it now!
Another mood swing from Lyle, great. I'll try to distract him by making him paint.
Bao is getting Marina's book in the mail before he heads to bed for the day.
Lyle's latest painting is worth 600 simoleons which is not bad at all.
Isla's already at fishing level 5! Her working hard at this is really starting to pay off.
Marina is at level 4 in logic which is also really good.
I got Lyle to play a little 'shower dye' prank. Let's see how this goes.
Well, he played the prank on Isla and it worked but she washed the dye off in about 2 seconds so I couldn't grab a screenshot quick enough. Sorry.
Isla's already tired so she's just crawling into bed.
Marina finished her second book and got to level 4 of writing.
So, I was trying to delete a paparazzi and I accidentally removed the bills that were behind her... Yeah, I'm glad I made that 'mistake'.
Marina is starting a brand new Fiction book called 'The Ghost of Theresa'.
Bao finished this painting here worth 853 simoleons and Marina published a few chapters of her book.
Enjoy your time while it lasts, you two. I'm deleting you both when I get sick of you.
Lyle's mood swing is done and so is this painting. Marina and him are both going to sleep now.
Bao is reminiscing with Isla.
That other paparazzi that used to come around a lot also aged up.
That's it for day 4 this week. We had a ghost visit and more skill building. Just a quick money update, we got to 10,000 simoleons in household funds and we're at about 65,000 in our furnished lot value.
WEEK 5, DAY 5
Today I'm hoping that we can get Bao closer to mastering painting, finish Marina's new book, get Isla a skill level higher in fishing and get Lyle to paint a few things.
Theresa, you already went through objects when you were alive. In fact, that's how you ended up dying.
So Theresa's 'spending the night' (even though it's 2:00 am already), which probably means some weird ghost-human woohoo.
For some reason they just won't woohoo, so I guess that a friendly conversation is fine too.
I'm trying to see if I can get the option for Theresa to move in with us, but I'm not sure if it's possible with a ghost.
So I couldn't find the option, which really sucks.
Paparazzi creeping on our children...
Back to writing for Marina and painting for Lyle.
Bao got the opportunity to go on a free vacation again and of course I had to decline. Back to washing dishes and unclogging toilets for Bao.
Marina finished her book so she can just play some chess to get her logic up now.
Bao's needing some rest for now.
Cake and then sleep for Isla. She got close to the next skill level in fishing, so she might continue later today.
Lyle is at level 9 in painting and he's still only a teenager! That means Bao and him only have one level to go until they've mastered it.
He's going to run himself a bath and then get back to painting.
Bao just got up, so he can spend the rest of the day painting like Lyle.
A bit more chess and then Marina can rest up.
This new painting of Bao's is worth almost a thousand simoleons!
Not even going to ask why this boy is swimming in the middle of the ocean.
See that tiny blue dot? Yeah, that's him.
Marina and Lyle just went to sleep.
I had the sims do most of the things I wanted to get done today. It wasn't a half bad day.
WEEK 5, DAY 6
Today we'll get Bao and Lyle closer to mastering painting. Marina will work on another book and maybe a little logic while Isla will be fishing as usual.
3:00 am fishing trip.
Bao and Lyle are up painting nice and early.
Bao's new painting is worth 685 simoleons. He's painting one more thing before he goes to sleep.
Isla finally gained a new skill level in fishing! She's level 6 now.
724 simoleon painting that I think has already been painted like 5 times.
Lyle can just talk to himself a bit to get his social bar up. That's one perk of being Insane I guess.
Marina's starting a Horror novel named 'How Theresa Died'.
Bao really needs some sleep.
Some person with a rainbow umbrella is just standing at the bottom of the ocean.
Can you spot the rainbow dot? Yep, that's her.
If one more person breaks this toilet...
Is this some kind of rainbow umbrella cult that I don't know about? Someone please fill me in.
How are all these people coming to our island? This isn't a tourist attraction!
Isla needs some shut-eye.
You're cleaning that Lyle. That's your ensuite.
This is actually starting to get really creepy. Who sent you here, woman?
I swear...
Yeah, go to sleep in your tuxedo. Sure.
Something fishy is definitely going on here with all these creeps hanging around.
A midnight snack for Bao before he fixes up this huge mess.
Marina's doing well with her book.
That's all that happened today. We're actually up to 14,000 simoleons in funds as of the end of today. We made a lot from all the painting, fishing and writing combined. This family makes a good team for money making.
WEEK 5, DAY 7
Today will just be more of the usual drama. Painting, fishing and writing, plus a few weird people armed with umbrellas.
Marina is low in all her needs, so she's going to go sort all of them out.
Theresa, there's this thing called personal space, and you're kind of violating it.
They have a freaking boat now? What are they trying to do?
Isla doesn't even remotely care that there are sims stalking her and her entire family 24/7.
He managed to fix the sink, but now for that huge puddle.
Mop, mop, mop.
Nothing really changed since we left the island.
Bao and Lyle have just been painting.
Lyle just completed his first painting worth over 1000 simoleons!
The one Bao finished was worth 732.
Marina is feeling desolate so she's talking to Lyle for a bit before they both go back to skill building.
Bed time for Bao.
Isla is done with fishing for the day since she has some needs to take care of.
Lyle's latest painting is worth nearly 1000 simoleons. He needs to sleep now.
The twins are just talking a bit before they both head to bed as well.
That's this day done then, and this week. It will be Spring time next week. There will be more birthdays and a ton of skill building. I'll keep you updated more often on how the family is going money-wise starting next week.
CONCLUSION
Another part complete! I've really been enjoying playing this challenge. I already have another challenge in mind that I might be doing after I complete this one (it might be a while until then, but hey, it's good to prepare). At the rate I'm going with one sim week being complete in 3 days, it shouldn't take too long. I'm just excited to see what the kids will look like after 5 generations. Will they look anything like the founders, or completely different? I do plan on keeping the family name going for the full 5 generations, which just means that whichever sim I choose to be heir each generation will have to propose to their partner.
I went on a little rant there... Anyway, hope these parts are still fun to look at and I'll be posting again soon. Goodbye for now.
  1. I absolutely love this blog!! So excited for next weeks part though. That raccoon and cat give me life though, like their friendship level and commitment to the island must be pretty strong.
